Responsible breeding code
This is what PetMatch expects from anyone posting with breeding intent. It is not a statement of good intentions: if a breach is reported and moderation confirms it, the account is sanctioned, and repeat breaches close it.
Before mating
- The female has reached the minimum age and development for her species and size, and it is never her first heat.
- Both parents have had the health tests recommended for their breed, and the results are available to the other party.
- Neither belongs to a breed whose breeding is prohibited or restricted in your jurisdiction. Checking that is your responsibility.
- For brachycephalic and giant breeds, there has been a prior veterinary consultation about whether whelping is viable.
- There is no known close relationship between the parents.
Litter limit
At most one litter per female per year, and never more than her clinical history allows. A female who has had complications during a whelping does not breed again.
Handing over the puppies
- Never before eight weeks of age, and only once they are wormed and have had their first course of vaccinations.
- With a veterinary record and microchip identification where local law requires it.
- With honest information about the breed, including its known health problems.
Money
PetMatch takes no commission, does not process payment for a mating and does not act as guarantor of any agreement. Asking for a deposit up front inside the chat is prohibited, and it is the most common fraud pattern in this category of app: if someone asks you for one, report it.
Adoption first
Shelters are full. PetMatch gives shelters and rescues a permanently free account, and highlights adoption in the feed on purpose. Breeding is a decision that deserves thinking about twice.
